Created in 1962 as a practical solution to the specific need to illuminate a window display, it is a spotlight with a rubber suction cup – hence the name (‘ventosa’ translates as suction cup) – for directing and re-directing light where needed. It went into production for use in the home, and is now back in a special re-edition, underscoring its enduring usefulness and its obliging spirit. The ingenious suggestions for its use in catalogue photos of the time speak volumes. Ventosa will sit happily on any smooth surface, whisky bottle included.
