Gatto

By Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, 1960

Named after "cat," Gatto is a Castiglioni brothers 1960 cocoon creation which sits softly on any table, offering a glowing diffused light. The lamp is done in the famous "cocoon" style that the duo was known for: a white powder coats the internal steel structure, which is then sprayed with the soft, webby resin. The diffuser is then protected by a delicate resin transparent, sprayed-on finish. Inspiration behind the design: Soft, sweet, and at home atop any table, this "cat" from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni was inspired by the work created by artist George Nelson for the Howard Miller Company in the late 1940s.
