The 265 by Flos is the iconic adjustable wall lamp designed by Paolo Rizzatto in 1973, available within the 265 Family in two models: 265 and 265 Small. In the Chromatica finish, colour plays a key role in the design. Rather than simply serving a decorative purpose, it emphasizes the function of each part. As architect Paolo Rizzatto says, “light is what allows our eyes to distinguish colour. So using colour to define the design of a light seemed like a natural progression of this concept.” In Rizzatto’s original design, each part of the wall lamp with an arm was associated with a primary colour chosen with a specific meaning. The most important element—the head—was red, the counterweight was yellow, and the connecting arm was blue. In 1973, they eventually decided to make the 265 lamp in softer shades; Chromatica brings the architect’s original idea to life.
The 265 embodies a utilitarian and democratic idea of design. It can pivot in different directions to illuminate space and is suited both to the home and to the office. The decentralised lighting concept can cater to numerous needs: you can move the adjustable arm upwards, downwards and to either side, so the light shines exactly where you want it.
The 265 Family also includes the 265 Small, with more compact dimensions and a shorter adjustable swing arm—an equally versatile solution designed to provide clear, direct light in spaces of all sizes.
Both models—265 and 265 Small—are available in three finishes: Chromatica, Black (steel coated with black paint) and White (steel coated with white paint).
Featuring a unique, practical design, this versatile lamp is also perfect for use as an adjustable decentralised ceiling light. When necessary, it can be placed at a specific point in a room and provide direct light that can satisfy various requirements. It is ideal for indoor use in places such as living rooms, studies and dining rooms.
