Thanks to the collaboration between Elle Decor Italia and Airbnb, a period home in Milan was transformed into The Apartment, a ‘temporary house’ that, for four days (30 November – 3 December), represented the values of the new category of Plus residence, launched by the well-known accommodations website. The interior design project, overseen by architects Frederik De Wachter and Alberto Artesani of DWA Design Studio, turned The Apartment into a container of unconventional emotions and experiences; a tailor-made project in which many important figures from the worlds of design, technology, and entertainment were involved.
The stratification of objects, typical of homes with a strong identity and personality, often occupied by multiple generations of the same family, was also seen in the choice of lamps: historic objects that defined Flos’ origins
As the exclusive partner for the home’s illumination, Flos carefully selected all of the lighting fixtures used in order to ensure that the various spaces were both welcoming and unique. The stratification of objects, typical of homes with a strong identity and personality, often occupied by multiple generations of the same family, was also seen in the choice of lamps: historic objects that defined Flos’ origins, like Luminator, Toio, Splügen Bräu, and Snoopy by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, or Le Sfere by Gino Sarfatti, were in perfect dialogue with the latest decorative hi-tech products, like the String Lights by Michael Anastassiades or the Superloon futuristic white disc by Jasper Morrison; as well as the entirely new product designed by Japanese Oki Sato of Nendo, the meta-lamp Gaku.
Welcoming and cheerful, The Apartment was the setting for a series of meetings: conversations regarding interior design, style, hospitality, lighting, and entertainment. For the talk on the importance of light in interior design, Luca Meinardi, CEO of Light Contract (Flos Group) spoke with Elle Decor Italia and DWA Design Studio about the challenges and opportunities involved in creating an illumination project for a residential space, also mentioning the infinite solutions provided by Flos’ Home, Architectural, and Outdoor Collections which fully respond to the criteria of comfort, quality, design, uniqueness, and personality which every homeowner wants for his or her own living space.
