Designed by Konstantin Grcic in 1999, Mayday is a multipurpose lamp conceived as a functional tool. Its sturdy build, handle and long cable make it highly portable, while a subtle triangular notch in the diffuser even allows it to hang from a nail. In short, anything is possible with Mayday. The name nods to both the distress call and the optimism of spring. A modern icon now made with sustainable materials, it reflects Grcic’s belief in democratic, purposeful design. Mayday won the Compasso d’Oro in 2001 and is part of the permanent collection at MoMA and other major design museums.
