Designed by Erwan Bouroullec, Emi is his first solo lighting design for Flos, built around the paradox of light from shadow’. Named after the word emitting’, Emi directs powerful light invisibly, reflected by surrounding walls rather than projected from a visible source. Its sculptural body disappears into the room when switched off, then transforms the space when illuminated. For Bouroullec, light is the most emotional realm of design because it shapes experience. Geometry is a constant in his work, here expressed through an unusual triangular form that defines both structure and function.
