On the official unveiling of its renewed Amsterdam showroom, Flos displays the latest novelties from its Home and Architectural Collections and celebrates Achille Castiglioni’s 100th birth anniversary with an inspiring lecture by his daughter Giovanna in the setting of a special exhibition of timeless lights designed by the Castiglioni brothers.

As founding and supporting member of the Achille Castiglioni Foundation, Flos invites Giovanna Castiglioni to retrace the inspiration and philosophy behind some of the most iconic lamps designed by the Castiglioni brothers for Flos, especially conveying Achille’s irony and genius, which originated many brilliant objects that are still recognized as design icons worldwide. Two wall displays will showcase a selection of historic lights, many of which are still in production and still the company’s bestsellers, such as Arco, Snoopy, Taccia, Toio, Lampadina, Gatto and two special anniversary re-editions, Ventosa and Nasa. The set up is enhanced by a precious life-size portrait of Achille, part of the photographic series realized by Luciano Soave for the poster of his solo exhibition in Vienna in 1984, capturing all the charisma, genius and brilliant intuition of this extraordinary figure.

For the occasion some of the latest Flos novelties are displayed in the showroom, among which the successful lighting system Arrangements by Michael Anastassiades with its geometric lighting elements combined in multiple compositions as jewel-like chandeliers and Overlap, the suspension lamp created by Michael following the Cocoon wrapping technique. Portable and wireless, the new table lamp Bellhop by Barber & Osgerby hosts a micro-USB connector on its base to recharge its battery for a lighting life up to 24hrs. The first project designed by Nendo for Flos is also displayed, Gaku, a wooden frame in black varnished or natural ash hosting a small suspended or wireless lamp rechargeable through induction plates, and various accessories like bowls, vases, a mirror and a bookend, hold in place on the frame by magnets. Finally, WireRing by Formafantasma a wall lamp consisting of a custom-made belt-like electric cable and a ring that contains a Led strip. Available in various colours and refined finishes, both elements can be freely combined, giving a unique touch to any environment.

Situated on a peninsula at the edge of the former dock area Oostelijk Havengebied, the Flos Showroom occupies one of the top floors of four buildings made of concrete, glass and steel that form a larger commercial complex with an awesome view over the water. The emerging Cruquiuskwartier is recently growing, attracting mainly companies in the creative sector. Flos has recently renewed the space and dedicated an entire area to the Flos Architectural Collection, showcasing the most innovative lighting systems on tracks and the highly technological devices for the remote control of LED spotlights.
